Business Blogs

because interior design is more than just pretty rooms

…………………….

I’m going to make a confession.  My Google Reader RSS feed is chock full of links to all the interior design blogs, but they’re not the most important blogs I read.  I start my day with a cup of strong coffee, and the daily posts of 6 business blogs that I think every interior design professional needs to read to succeed.

Succeeding in the interior design world is much more than coordinating fabrics, specifying finishes, and creating floor plans.  Like any other small business you need to master marketing, finance, HR and PR….. the list goes on.  And that’s all before you even consider social media platform and search engine optimization.  It can be overwhelming.  Luckily there are many online resources that offer help.  Here are my ‘must read’ blogs, and a synopsis of what they offer.

Blogtrepreneur is the brainchild of Adam and Matthew Toren.  These brothers are serial entrepreneurs whose blog focuses on small business management, marketing, and finance.  They are very tech savvy – and as such the solutions they offer are internet driven.

…………………….

If as they say ‘content is king’, then copyblogger is certainly the rest of the royal family.  Their bi-line is “Content Marketing Advise and Content that Works”, and that about sums it up.  If you write a business blog, or aspire to create online content, this is a daily must.

…………………….

Marketing Wisdom is Robert Clay’s UK based blog which centers on, you guessed it, marketing.  His daily dispatches are very insightful.  It’s worth noting that the website is itself marketing the consulting serves Mr. Clay offers, which you may or may not want.

…………………….

Michael Hyatt Intentional Leadership is the blog I get the most out of.  He’s particularly adept at explaining the reasoning behind the marketing success of social media.  I also highly recommend his book, ‘Platform‘.

…………………….

The New York Times Business Blog covers every imaginable subject that relates to business.  I find it particularly interesting because they often make reference to business practices which are outdated while offering timely alternatives.

…………………….

Startup Professionals Musings by Martin Zwilling offers insightful information for those just starting businesses, as well as sage advise for entrepreneurs at all stages of business development.  He’s got a very well established following – and is consistently linked in several of the other blogs I’ve mentioned.

…………………….

I’m hopeful you’ll find some of these blogs helpful.  The bi-line to my blog is ‘resources for the interior design professional’, which is more than just vendors and product.  Have I missed a blog you think is helpful in running your business?  Please let me know, and I’ll share the link here.
