On the first full weekend of this summer season the doors to the premiere Holiday House Hamptons Decorator Show House opened with a white themed gala.  The evening was glorious with over 500 in attendance to show their support for Iris Dankner and Holiday House, the charity she founded.  The Hamptons community was all abuzz over the superlative efforts of the talented 22 interior designers who have graciously participated.

Upon arriving early for the VIP press review, I had the opportunity to chat with Iris; she graciously related her personal story and reasons for starting Holiday House to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation;

“As a 16-year breast cancer survivor who was diagnosed due to early detection, it is so important for me to be involved in breast cancer research.  After my diagnosis, I vowed that I would do everything in my power to help save lives.  I started the Holiday House because it was a great way for me to raise awareness about breast cancer in a different way.  It is a project that allows me to combine my two passions: my love for interior design and my hope to eradicate this devastating disease.  With HC&G as the perfect media partner, I am thrilled at the opportunity to bring my annual Manhattan showhouse to the beautiful town of Bridgehampton.  I invite everyone to come and celebrate life with us!”

.

I was also fortunate to have a moment with Kendell Cronstrom of Cottage and Gardens.  Here is what he had to say about the month-long event;

“As admirers of Holiday House NYC, we at HC&G are so pleased to give a sense of place to Iris’s mission in our own backyard.  Holiday House Hamptons will encompass all that is wonderful and stylish about summertime in the Hamptons while lending support to this worthy cause.  Wait till you see what our talented designers have dreamed up!”

Here is a peak inside of some of the marvelous creations by the interior designers who offered their creative flair and time to help with breast cancer research.

Thom Filicia‘s room is dedicated to his late mother, who lost her battle with the disease.  She encouraged him in so many ways to be his best and to celebrate each day is if it were a holiday.

Timothy Brown‘s handsome room is a masculine retreat that has many reminiscences of his youth and is in fact a true sanctuary for the man of the house.

Ally Coulter‘s Master Bedroom is awash with femininity and glamour, truly fit for a queen.

DSC00177Another room fit for a queen is Guillaume Gentet‘s Media Room which pays homage to late 18th century France and its figurehead (no pun intended) Marie Antoinette.  Magnifiqué.

The Great Room created by Mabley Handler is the perfect getaway for after fun-filled days at the beach where you can sip a pre-dinner cocktail and relax away the stresses of a hectic week.

Richard Mishaan‘s dramatic Dining Room is heightened by the use a custom color by C2 Paint (one of the event’s sponsors) to reference Yves Klein’s signature shade of blue.

This smart and sophisticated bedroom by James Michael Howard is the height of eclectic chic – that only a summer home in the Hamptons might have.

Bringing the picnic indoors, Duneier Design celebrates the longest day of the year with riotous splashes of color and pattern to bring a freshness to the look of the casual epicenter of this house.

Ford Huniford‘s Porch is the ultimate summer afternoon retreat, soothing and rejuvenating.  The serenity is highlighted by the room’s modern perspective on what a porch needs to be.

This fundraising event will prove to be a tremendous success during its run from June 23rd through July 21st.  My hat is off to Iris Dankner and her inimitable Co-Chair Christopher Hyland as they have created another summer tradition in the Hamptons.
We strongly encourage you to visit the house, support this great charity, and be inspired by great design.
