Another month and a new stack of magazines have been read through. I have searched out five products that I find noteworthy and which I hope you will find of interest.
This month my finds were a bit more challenging to source so I think that you will appreciate my research. So let’s get to it.

Luxe Magazine has piqued my interest for some time now, and this month I found a Chesterfield sofa in a project by Weitzman Halpern Design. I am an aficionado of tufting and have used a version of this sofa on many design projects. Typically, I would work with my upholstery workroom to create customized versions of the venerable Chesterfield sofa. Here, I decided to look for other options.
The first place I looked was at the George Smith website to find their versions of the Chesterfield. They offer three versions, each true representations of the classic English versions. Poltrona Frau has had one in their upholstery line for many years. Their version is offered with loose seat cushions and a unique ruched arm panel detail, a classic but with a twist or two. The third resource is a firm aptly named Chesterfield located in New York which specializes in traditional English upholstery as well as some other quite interesting furniture for you to consider. Take a look at all three for great choices.

Searching Veranda magazine, I chose my first architectural product, the French limestone fireplace. Both the antique and the replica are synonymous with ‘Old World’ charm. I love the tactile quality of the stone and the warmth that it adds to a room. Here is a totally inviting room designed by Pamela Pierce.
Southern Florida is no stranger to French Provencal decor. My first source, Authentic Provence has a number of great selections, both old and new, along with other architectural and garden elements to compliment any French style project. Exquisite Surfaces, with multiple locations in California, Chicago and the New York/Greenwich area, specializes in antique pieces but also works with modern-day artisans to create quality reproductions for their discerning clients. Located in Scottsdale, Arizona, Antiquities offers antique building materials. Again, the selection can’t be beat. This makes me want to specify an antique fireplace surround again soon.

In the latest issue of Objekt International, I have focused my attention towards one of my favorite architectural elements to any interior, the sculptural staircase. The ceremonial essence of a stairway is elemental to the dramatic experience of entering a room. Let’s take a look at this skillful staircase by the Toronto based multi-disciplined design firm Rhed. Just think of some of the best known examples – the grand staircase in ‘Gone With The Wind’ or that dervish spiraling concoction in ‘Auntie Mame’ – now those were entrance making statements for sure.
A couple of years ago, I discovered this European design and manufacturing firm of staircases on Facebook and have followed them ever since. EeStairs can create a variety of spectacular staircases in almost limitless material options. Take a look. Next, an Italian based company, Siller, has a representative here in New York. I find no objection to working with internationally and would certainly want to take advantage of a superior design aesthetic if I were able to. For a resource closer to home and one that offers a simpler application, why not look into Modular Stairs. There should be no limitations in realizing this architectural goal.

New York Spaces magazine features an interior by renowned designer Robert Couturier, from which I would like to help you with where one can go to buy a reproduction French Empire style steel day bed. This was one of the most difficult items for me to research to date. However, without fail, I have come up with my obligatory three.
It seems that Mr. Couturier had procured the only antique one in town, so here are my three top choices for this classic. At Antiques.com there is or was a perfectly acceptable vintage bed, circa 1960’s which was a time of great popularity for this look. The perfect solution for extra guest accommodations is this next version, all-be-it, a much paired down rendition from Charles P. Rogers. My final selection is from John Boone Inc. where you can still order the day bed from the Paul M. Jones Collection that JBI has kept available for those who appreciate these great furniture pieces issued 40 to 50 years ago by Mr. Jones himself. Scroll through the collection to find the bed and view the other timeless pieces.

Robert Stilin in the current House Beautiful has used a stunning trestle table in his dining room. I admire the simplicity of the engineering on a trestle table. Basic and functional are the key things that I look for in one.
If you are looking for a great antique one, you will find that John J. Gredler Works of Art, Inc. has fine examples of Italian and other continental tables, some elaborate and very attractive. Next up is a truly simple and practical folding option available through Rose Uniacke’s shop in London. This is well worth it. For those of you who prefer to buy a table made from reclaimed wood and in America, Lake & Mountain Home is a great resource for you,
